Free-Cutting Aluminum alloys Meeting RoHS Standard
Free-cutting aluminum alloys features advantaged performance in separating cutting powder, and can prevent tracks on the surface of workpiece when cutting or drilling, additionally, it can automatically discharge the powder, therefore, it is applicable for automatic processing with wide application in such industries as automobile, mechanical and electrical equipments and OA machines.
Traditional method is mainly added into such low-melting point alloys as Pb and Bi into Al-Cu, Al-Mg-Si alloys for forming low-melting point compound, when cutting, the knifepoint may heat and melt, thus separating powder. The typical alloys include A2011 and A6262.
In recent years, as the improvement of the requirements on environment protecting, Pb was listed into the harmful material by RoHS, and the content of Pb is limited at <0.35% in aluminum alloy.
Therefore, it is the trend to develop free-cutting aluminum alloys whose Pb content meets RoHS requirements in the market.
Free-cutting aluminum alloys meeting RoHS standard
Free-cutting aluminum alloys which contain (Pb) 0.2%, (Sn) 0.4% and (Bi) 0.5% developed by Hoshion meet the RoHS standard, among which, Pb content is much lower than 0.35% in aluminum alloy.
Al-5Cu-based alloy H211 substitutes A2011, Al-0.6Si-1Mg-based alloy M662 substitutes A6262, the actual mechanical property and processing property are shown below:
